Check a journal's HEC category (W, X or Y) without leaving Google Scholar.
Based on HEC policy 2024 (from 1 Oct 2024). Foreign Scopus-only journals are not recognised.
Every Scholar result gets a small badge next to the journal name: HEC W, HEC X, HEC Y or "Not HEC recognised". Hover it to see why the journal has that category and the dates it is valid for. When Scholar cuts a journal name short, the badge shows "HEC ?" instead of guessing.
Click the extension icon to search any journal by name or ISSN, or press "Check the journal on this page" while you are on a journal's own website.
The data follows the HEC Journals & Publication Policy 2024 (from 1 Oct 2024): Web of Science lists (23,004 journals) plus HEC's lists of Pakistani journals. I made it while hunting for journals for my own PhD work, because the HJRS site was often down.
Free and Pro
Free: the W, X or Y badge on every Google Scholar result, and 10 journal searches a day in the popup.
Pro, $2 a month: unlimited searches, ISSN, publisher, subjects and the category in earlier periods (including HJRS 2023-24), and the "Check the journal on this page" button. Cancel any time.
After you pay, Lemon Squeezy emails you a license key. Click the extension icon, choose "I have a key" and paste it. One key works on up to 3 browsers.
The list can change, so always confirm the category on hjrs.hec.gov.pk before you submit a paper. This tool is not made by or linked to HEC.
